Don’t Want to Miss It

A guy hosted a dinner party for people from work, including his boss.

All during the sit-down dinner, the host's three-year-old girl stared at her father's boss sitting across from her. The girl could hardly eat her food for staring.

The man checked his tie, felt his face for food, patted his hair in place, but nothing stopped her from staring at him. He tried his best to ignore her, but finally it was too much for him.

He asked her, "Why are you staring at me?"

Everyone at the table had noticed her behavior and the table went quiet for her response.

The little girl said, "My Daddy said you drink like a fish and I don't want to miss it!"

有一個人作東給同事們辦了個晚餐派對，也邀請了他的老板。

整個由服務員端來吃的晚餐過程中，作東人三歲的女兒一直盯著坐在對面的爸爸的老板看。因為一直盯著，所以女孩兒幾乎沒吃東西。

那個老板檢查了自己的領(lǐng)帶有沒有打好，臉上有沒有食物，還輕拂了頭發(fā)，可是女孩兒還是盯著他看。他試著不理會小女孩，可最終還是忍不住了。

他問她：“你為什么一直看我?”

桌上的每個人都注意到了女孩兒的行為，于是安靜地等她的回答。

小女孩兒說：“我老爸說你喝酒的時候像條魚一樣，我可不想錯過這么精彩的表演!”

詞匯講解】

1.host作東。作動詞還有“招待/主持/舉辦”的意思：Our school will host a sports meeting.我們學校即將舉辦運動會。

2.sid-down由服務員端來吃的。Sit down 是坐下的意思，加了連字符變?yōu)樾稳菰~，專門形容那些由服務員上菜的餐會。

3.stare at盯著看。stare還有別的用法，比如，stare down使屈服：stare sb. down on the issues在這個問題上使某人就范。還有make sb. stare使某人大吃一驚，be staring sth. in the face面臨…的厄運。

4.pat輕拍…使成形。也有“輕拍表示安慰”的意思：He patted my arm in a brotherly gesture.他以兄弟般的友好態(tài)度拍拍我的胳膊。
